A native daughter, Susan Smith-Hunter has deep Champlain Valley roots. As a child, she discovered that clay of Willsboro Point could be kneaded into fascinating shapes. Since that time, she has been a teacher of art, retiring as Professor Emeritus from Green Mountain College, a maker of art in bronze, marble, polyester resin, rope, yarn and clay, and a designer for two small creative companies. True to her formative diggings, she now works primarily in clay, meandering between figurative work and abstracted. "...(she) is still exploring...souls and psyches inside the shells and behind the masks we present to the world."
Susan has exhibited throughout New England and elsewhere since 1964. Her work is in many private collections and the public collections of Green Mountain College, Delgato Museum of Art and others. She received her education at the Rhode Island School of Design, Tulane University and Arcosanti, Arizona.
